Lately, I’ve been learning something that’s quietly shifting the way I see everything.
After reading In the Flo by Alisa Vitti, I realized that so much of the health advice we hear — how to eat, how to work, how to exercise — is based on the male 24-hour clock. The traditional structure most of us live by wasn’t actually designed for women at all.
Women were made to move with a 28-day cycle — one that mirrors the rhythm of the moon rather than the sun.
I’m 30 years old and only now making this connection.
And honestly, it’s made me wonder: how different would my relationship with my body have been if I had learned this sooner?
The Cycle We Weren’t Taught About
It’s crazy to think about, but our natural 28-day cycle hardly gets mentioned outside of conversations about fertility or periods — and even then, it’s often reduced to something inconvenient or shameful.
But when you look closer, it’s so much more.
The female body flows through four distinct phases every month, each with its own natural energy, nutritional needs, and emotional patterns.
It’s not random. It’s brilliant.
And yet… the world we live in runs on the idea that every day should look the same: same energy, same output, same expectations.
No wonder so many of us feel like we’re constantly working against ourselves.
A New Way to Show Up for Myself
Since learning about the 28-day cycle, I’ve started making small, meaningful shifts:
-
Menstrual Phase → Rest, reflect, and journal.
-
Follicular Phase → Move more, eat fermented foods, tap into creative bursts.
-
Ovulation Phase → Embrace high energy and connection.
-
Luteal Phase → Slow down, nourish myself, prepare for deep rest.
I’m learning to adjust how I move, eat, and even schedule my life depending on where I am in my cycle.
Not perfectly — but intentionally.
It’s not about following strict rules. It’s about paying attention. Listening. Trusting that my body knows what it needs.
What If It’s Not You?
What if it’s the Clock?
If you’ve ever felt frustrated with your energy, your productivity, or your emotions… maybe it’s not that you’re failing.
Maybe it’s that you’ve been trying to live by a rhythm that wasn’t meant for you.
I don’t want to treat my body like a machine anymore.
I want to treat it like the beautifully complex, ever-changing, deeply wise system that it is.
Here’s to living slower, softer, and more in tune with the rhythm we were made for.
