The Yellow Dresser Flip: Before and After

The Yellow dresser flip: before and after

The time has come to reveal what the yellow dresser has become. A long awaited reveal. I picked up this dresser FREE on the side of the road in June with my husband and mother in law and couldn’t wait to get started working on it. I thought I would have this thing sold in a week. And I was very, very, wrong.

I have always been curious about furniture flipping so I thought I would give it a try. What I didn’t realize is having a vision of what a piece should look like would save you a bunch of time. Not to mention I just found out I was pregnant and didn’t want to over exert myself between this dresser, my toddler, and being in my first trimester.

I decided I would sand the drawers first and they revealed this beautiful neutral soft wood. What I didn’t anticipate is how long it would take me to sand the base. I also figured getting it down the natural wood was the way to go. It is not. Especially if you are planning on painting it.

IF I would have known I wanted to paint the base black I would have done a light sanding over the whole thing and then painted it. The dresser would have been done months ago and out of my husbands garage.

But me assuming I know what I am doing decide to sand the whole thing and then decide, I want to paint the base black keeping the top and the drawers natural. I actually got to this point and decided I was sick of sanding and would paint over what I didn’t get off. haha!

Final thing is to replace the knobs and handles and viola! She now lives in our living room and not with some one else. lol

If I were to do a furniture flip again, I would have a clear picture in my mind of what I want the piece to look like before I take it home, and maybe not be pregnant when I try and tackle something like this.

I would also like to sincerely thank my husband for not burning this dresser while it sat in his way for months. I really like having it in our living room, it gives us so much more floor space compared to the round table we had here, and storage that we were lacking. I love the end result, I just need to be a better project planner for furniture flips in the future. šŸ™‚

  1. Honestly love the way it turned out but the picture of the entire sanded dresser in it’s natural wood tone is stunning šŸ˜ i wouldn’t have been able to paint it because I love light wood tones! Great work!!

    1. Thank you Shannon! I knew that I did not have the patience to continue sanding and pivoted my vision mid project haha It is beautiful and I am so happy I left the drawers natural!
